Beware the Werewolf . . . Diet

How much meat is too much meat?

Before flipping your food pyramid on its head in favor of bloody red meats, please do consider the myriad adverse affects. Though it would bring this carnivore great pleasure to celebrate the mostly-meat diet now touted by the USDA, it is ill advised for most, if not all, people interested in living a healthy, lengthy life.

Do I partake in a mostly meaty diet with ravenous delight? I always have, but I have also always clearly and loudly vocalized this caveat to others: this is my choice made with full knowledge that it will literally be the death of me.

As much as any human is able, I am exercising my right to choose my manner of death, and with my dietary preferences, it will most likely be by massive coronary or whopping stroke after wolfing down my millionth 44-ounce rib-eye, or after salvaging the fattiest pieces of brisket the butcher carelessly tossed out like refuse, or after supping on a plateful of bacon-wrapped pork belly doused in kewpie mayo.

Sound irresponsible? It’s what the doctor – er, attorney-turned-uneducated Secretary of Health and Human Services is now ordering for your health. Before you buy the ticket, know what ride you’re buying into. A diet high in animal fats, be they beef, pork, or… other, carry the scientifically-linked risks of taking a one-way boat ride across a grisly river potentially from:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Stroke
  • Type-2 diabetes
